Spread the message!
One of the easiest ways to make a difference is to share information about the plight of wild tigers. A large proportion of people aren’t even aware that there are as few as 3,890 wild tigers left in the world. Very few can name the thirteen tiger range countries!
From a simple tweet to an in-depth blog post, use your voice online to inform and inspire the masses! You can share tiger news from our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages… or you can create your own content and tag us!
Have conversations about tigers, wildlife and wild places with friends, family and people you know. Share your passion!
Be aware of the illegal wildlife trade
Poaching and the illegal wildlife trade pose a huge threat to the future of tigers and other endangered wildlife across the world. Never buy any products derived from tigers or endangered species. Examples of these include:
- Tiger skins, jewellery made from claws and teeth, tiger whiskers, tiger bone wine, tiger meat and any medicine that contains tiger derivatives.
- Raw or carved ivory (from the teeth or tusks of elephants, whales, walruses and seals)
- Sea turtle products such as shells, souvenirs, skins and jewellery
Contact TRAFFIC to report any wildlife products being sold illegally.
You’ve probably heard about the need to use our planet’s resources in a more environmentally friendly way. With all the wide-spread information about climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and disheartened. The issues can seem like distant, far-away things that we have no control over… but did you know that our behaviour as consumers can directly affect wild tigers – for better or for worse?
For example, one high profile campaign raised awareness about the link between an every-day brand of toilet paper and deforestation of critical tiger habitat in Sumatra.
The great news is you don’t have to overhaul your entire lifestyle to be more environmentally friendly! Little changes in your life can gradually add up and make a difference! As one wise quote says:
Adopt a tiger with WWF
Making a symbolic adoption with WWF is a great way to support our work and help protect tigers. The adoption kit includes a cuddly toy and information pack, making it a good gift too! Click here to find your local WWF office and visit their website for more information about adoptions.
Remember that the species aren’t just limited to tigers – why not adopt a Sniffer Dog? These four legged heroes play crucial role in combating the trade in tiger parts and other endangered species!
Fundraise / Donate
Fundraising is a fantastic way to combine raising awareness of the plight of tigers with taking action to protect them. It is often an exciting and rewarding experience – you can be as creative as you like!
If you’re unsure of where to begin, the Panda Nation page is a good place to start.
